Solomon's role: God's faithfulness?
What can we learn about God's faithfulness from Solomon's inclusion in this genealogy?

Setting the Scene: 1 Chronicles 3:10

“Solomon’s son was Rehoboam, Abijah his son, Asa his son, Jehoshaphat his son,”

God Keeps His Covenant Promises

• Long before Solomon’s name appeared in this list, the Lord swore to David, “I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever” (2 Samuel 7:12-16; 1 Chronicles 17:11-14).

• Solomon’s presence in the genealogy proves God acted exactly as He said—David’s own son did inherit the throne and the line continued.

• Every name after Solomon underscores that the covenant did not stall after one generation; it marched forward because the Lord guaranteed it.

Faithfulness in the Midst of Human Failure

• Solomon was born to Bathsheba, a relationship that began in sin (2 Samuel 11). Yet God’s grace overruled shame and placed Solomon in the royal line (1 Chronicles 3:5).

• David’s family knew betrayal (Amnon), revolt (Absalom, Adonijah), and discipline (2 Samuel 12:10-14), but none of it invalidated God’s word.

Romans 3:3-4 reminds us: “Will their unbelief nullify the faithfulness of God? Not at all!” Solomon’s inclusion is living proof.

A Line Preserved for Messiah

• Centuries later, Matthew 1:6-7 openly traces Jesus through “David… Solomon… Rehoboam,” echoing 1 Chronicles 3:10.

Luke 1:32-33 ties the promise back together: the angel says Jesus will receive “the throne of His father David… and His kingdom will never end.”

• Without Solomon, the prophetic bridge from David to Christ would collapse; his name testifies that God’s redemptive plan stayed on track.

What Solomon’s Name Teaches Us about God’s Faithfulness

– God’s promises are literal, time-tested, and unbreakable.

– Grace can redeem the darkest chapters and still advance God’s plan.

– Generations may change, but the Lord’s word stands firm (Isaiah 40:8).

– Our confidence rests not in human consistency but in divine constancy.

– Every believer today stands in a long line of fulfilled promises, just as Solomon once did.

Living in Light of His Faithfulness

• Trust: If God guarded a royal lineage for centuries, He can guard our lives today (2 Thessalonians 3:3).

• Persevere: Failures do not annul His purposes; repent and keep walking (1 John 1:9).

• Worship: Let fulfilled prophecy move your heart to praise, the same God writing your story (Psalm 89:1-2).
