Trusting God's promises today?
How can we trust God's promises like those in Psalm 89:35 today?

The promise stated

“Once and for all I have sworn by My holiness— I will not lie to David.” (Psalm 89:35)

Promise anchored in God’s unchanging character

• God swears “by My holiness,” staking the promise on His very nature; He must cease to be holy before He could break His word.

Numbers 23:19 – “God is not a man, that He should lie…”

Titus 1:2 – our hope rests on “God, who cannot lie.”

Hebrews 6:17-18 – God confirmed His promise with an oath “so that… it is impossible for God to lie.”

Promise reaffirmed by past faithfulness

• Creation itself testifies that when God speaks, reality conforms (Genesis 1).

• He fulfilled His word to Abraham (Genesis 15Exodus 12:41).

• He preserved David’s line and brought forth Messiah, Jesus (2 Samuel 7:16Luke 1:31-33).

• Every promise kept becomes evidence that the next one is certain.

Promise fulfilled ultimately in Christ

2 Corinthians 1:20 – “For all the promises of God are ‘Yes’ in Christ.”

Luke 1:69-73 – God keeps the oath to David by raising up “a horn of salvation” in Jesus.

Revelation 5:5 – the Lion of Judah, heir to David’s throne, guarantees the eternal kingdom Psalm 89 anticipates.

Promise experienced personally today

1. Receive the King

• Trust Jesus as the promised Son of David; His reign secures every divine pledge to you (John 1:12).

2. Stand on written certainty

• Daily read and recall specific promises—e.g., Hebrews 13:5, Philippians 4:19—confident they rest on the same oath-keeping God.

3. Pray the promise back to Him

• Psalmists often say, “Remember Your word” (Psalm 119:49); we echo that, not to remind God but to anchor our hearts.

4. Obey expectantly

James 1:22-25 links obedience with enjoying the “perfect law of freedom.” Acting on His word proves we truly believe it.

5. Wait patiently

Hebrews 10:23 – “Let us hold resolutely to the hope we confess, for He who promised is faithful.” Delays refine faith, not deny fulfillment.

Promise secured for the future

Isaiah 55:11 – God’s word “will not return to Me void.”

1 Peter 1:3-5 – An inheritance kept “in heaven… shielded by God’s power.”

Revelation 21:5 – “Write this down, for these words are faithful and true.” The same voice that swore to David guarantees the new creation.

Because the God who “cannot lie” swore by His own holiness, we can rest our salvation, daily needs, and eternal destiny on His unbreakable promises—just as surely as David did.
