Use Jeremiah's faith in daily choices?
How can we apply Jeremiah's example of faith in our daily decision-making?

Setting the Scene

Jerusalem is under siege, Jeremiah is imprisoned, and land values are crashing. Yet God tells the prophet that his cousin will offer him a field to buy. Verse 8 records the moment:

“Then, as the LORD had said, my cousin Hanamel came to me in the courtyard of the guard and urged me, ‘Please buy my field in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, since you have the right of redemption to buy it; buy it for yourself.’ Then I knew that this was the word of the LORD.” (Jeremiah 32:8)

Jeremiah’s Faith-Filled Action

• Heard God’s word first (vv. 6-7)

• Waited for confirmation—Hanamel’s arrival matched the prior word

• Obeyed immediately, purchasing a field that looked worthless in the moment

• Sealed the deed and stored it away as a long-term witness to God’s promise of restoration (vv. 9-15)

Principles for Our Decisions Today

• Let Scripture guide the initial impulse

– “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)

• Look for confirming evidence that aligns with God’s written word

– “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter shall be established.” (Deuteronomy 19:15)

• Act even when circumstances make obedience seem unreasonable

– “We walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

• Choose long-term kingdom gain over short-term comfort

– “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:20)

• Seal decisions in tangible ways—written commitments, accountability partners, or practical steps, just as Jeremiah sealed the deed

Scriptures for Reinforcement

Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust the Lord, not your own understanding

James 1:5 – Ask God for wisdom and expect His generous answer

Romans 10:17 – Faith comes by hearing the word of Christ

Hebrews 11:1 – Faith is confidence in what we hope for, conviction about what we do not see

Practical Daily Steps

1. Begin each day with Bible reading, listening for specific guidance.

2. When a decision arises, check it against clear scriptural teaching.

3. Seek confirmation through godly counsel and providential circumstances.

4. Act promptly once confirmation aligns with Scripture, resisting paralysis by analysis.

5. Record the decision—journal the verse, the confirmation, and the action taken, just as Jeremiah kept the deed.

6. Revisit that record when doubts surface, reminding yourself that God’s word is reliable.
