What to do when God seems silent?
How can we respond when God seems silent to our prayers?

When Heaven Seems Silent – The Canaanite Moment

“ But Jesus did not answer a word. ” (Matthew 15:23)

What God’s Silence Is (and Isn’t)

• Not divine indifference—He “never slumbers nor sleeps” (Psalm 121:4).

• Often a faith-test, much like Job’s long night (Job 23:8-10).

• An invitation to press in, because Jesus eventually responded (Matthew 15:28).

• A refining fire that exposes motives and deepens trust (James 1:3-4).

Healthy Heart-Checks While We Wait

• Am I seeking the Giver or just the gift?

• Is unconfessed sin clogging the line? (Psalm 66:18)

• Do I harbor unforgiveness that grieves the Spirit? (Ephesians 4:30-32)

• Have I already received clear direction I’m ignoring? (James 4:17)

Practical Responses When Silence Lingers

• Keep crying out—persistence is praised (Luke 18:1-8).

• Anchor in the written promises, even when no fresh word comes (Psalm 119:105).

• Worship anyway; the Canaanite woman “came and knelt before Him” (Matthew 15:25).

• Surround yourself with believers who will carry the petition when your voice trembles (Galatians 6:2).

• Record past deliverances; yesterday’s faithfulness fuels today’s patience (1 Samuel 7:12).

• Rest in His sovereignty—His timing is perfect (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Promises That Steady a Waiting Soul

Psalm 27:14 – “Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!”

2 Corinthians 12:8-9 – His grace is sufficient, even when the “thorn” remains.

Habakkuk 2:3 – “Though it lingers, wait for it; it will surely come and will not delay.”

Hebrews 11:6 – He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

Silence Will Not Have the Last Word

Jesus’ hush in verse 23 crescendoed into healing in verse 28. The pattern holds: Calvary’s three-day silence ended in resurrection glory. Keep knocking; the door will open (Matthew 7:7-8).

Why did Jesus initially 'not answer a word' to the Canaanite woman?
