Which scriptures stress holiness?
What other scriptures emphasize the importance of holiness in God's presence?

A Quick Look at 2 Chronicles 8:11

“Then Solomon brought Pharaoh’s daughter up from the City of David to the house he had built for her, for he said, ‘My wife shall not live in the house of my father David because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.’”

Solomon understood something vital: any spot touched by God’s ark was set apart. Being near the LORD’s presence demanded holiness. Scripture keeps echoing that truth.

Holiness Around the Ark—Old-Testament Snapshots

Exodus 3:4-5 – God stops Moses: “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”

Exodus 19:10-12 – Before Sinai shakes, the people must wash, consecrate themselves, and keep their distance.

Leviticus 16:2 – Even Aaron may enter the Most Holy Place only at God’s time and terms, or “he will die.”

2 Samuel 6:6-7 – Uzzah touches the ark; judgment falls. Holiness is non-negotiable.

1 Chronicles 15:12-13 – David commands the Levites to “consecrate yourselves” before moving the ark “the proper way.”

Consecration Before Meeting God

Leviticus 11:44-45 – “Consecrate yourselves… be holy, because I am holy.”

Joshua 5:13-15 – The commander of the LORD’s army tells Joshua to remove his sandals; the ground is holy.

2 Chronicles 29:5 – Hezekiah’s priests cleanse the temple, understanding holiness precedes worship.

Personal Holiness Commanded

Psalm 24:3-4 – Only those with “clean hands and a pure heart” may “stand in His holy place.”

Isaiah 6:1-5 – Isaiah sees the thrice-holy God and cries, “Woe is me… I am a man of unclean lips.”

Hebrews 12:14 – “Pursue… holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”

1 Peter 1:15-16 – “Be holy in all you do… ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”

2 Corinthians 7:1 – “Let us cleanse ourselves… perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”

Holiness in Worship and Vision

Psalm 96:9 – “Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.”

Matthew 5:8 – “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

Revelation 4:8 – Heavenly beings never cease proclaiming, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.”

New Covenant, Same Standard

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 – Believers are now God’s temple; “God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”

Ephesians 1:4 – Chosen “to be holy and blameless in His presence.”

Revelation 21:27 – “Nothing unclean will ever enter” the New Jerusalem.

Why This Matters Today

God has never relaxed His standard. From Sinai to Solomon’s palace, from Isaiah’s vision to the church as His temple, holiness marks the ground where God dwells. Because Christ brings us near, the call is even more personal: cleanse hearts, pursue purity, and live set apart—so that His holy presence is welcomed, honored, and enjoyed.

How can we apply Solomon's example of reverence in our daily lives?
