1 Timothy 4
Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter EditionKJP

1Now the Spirit speaks clearly and expressly that, in the latter times, some shall abandon the faith, being seduced by deceptive spirits, and the teaching of demons - 2Teachings taught by hypocritical liars whose consciences have been seared and deadened as with a hot iron. 3They forbid or condemn marriage, as well as the eating of certain foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4For everything created by God is good, and not to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving; 5And it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

6If you point these principles out to the brothers and sisters, you shall be a good servant of Jesus Christ, nourished by the true teachings of the faith, which you have received and followed. 7But reject profane godless myths and old wives' tales, but rather discipline yourself in godliness. 8Physical exercise has some value; but godliness has value that transcends all things, holding promise for both this present life, and that which is to come (Prov.19:23). 9This, again, is a faithful saying and worthy of full acceptance. 10That is why we both labor, stive and endure insults; because we trust in the living God, Who is the Savior of all people, and particularly of all believers. 11Teach and urge everyone to learn these things.

12Do not let anyone despise you because of your youth; but set an example for the believers - in word, conduct, love, spirit, faith, and in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to reading Scriptures to the church, to preaching, and teaching. 14Do not neglect the spiritual gift that was given you by prophecy, when the body of elders laid their hands on you. 15Diligently reflect upon these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that your spiritual growth is apparent to all. 16Keep close watch upon your lifestyle, and your doctrine. Persevere in them; because by doing so, you shall save both yourself and those who hear you.
