1David sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD rescued him from the grasp of Saul and all his enemies:

2“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my Deliverer; 3The God of my rock; in Him will I trust; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, my refuge, my Savior. You save me from violence. 4I will call on the LORD, Who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.

5When the waves of death swirled about me, the floods of destruction and chaos made me afraid; 6The sorrows of the grave entangled me; the snares of death confronted me; 7In my distress I called upon the LORD; I cried to my God; and He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came to His ears.

8Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because He was angry. 9Smoke rose from His nostrils, and fire from His mouth devoured; coals were kindled by it. 10He parted the heavens, and came down; and darkness was under His feet. 11And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; and He was seen upon the wings of the wind. 12And He made darkness a canopy around Him - dense rain clouds of the skies. 13Out of the brightness of His presence bolts of lightning blazed forth. 14The LORD thundered from heaven, and the voice of the Most High resounded. 15And He sent out arrows, and scattered the enemy; bolts of lightning routed them. 16And the channels of the sea appeared; the foundations of the world were laid bare, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of His nostrils.

17He reached down from above, He took me; He drew me out of deep waters; 18He rescued me from my powerful enemy, and from those who hated me; for they were too strong for me. 19They came upon me in the day of my calamity; but the LORD was my support. 20He also brought me out into a spacious place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.

21The LORD rewarded me for my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me. 22For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly turned from my God. 23For all His ordinances were before me; and I did not depart from His statutes. 24I was upright before Him, and have kept myself from iniquity. 25Therefore, the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in His sight.

26With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful, and with the upright man You will show Yourself upright. 27With the pure You will show Yourself pure; but to the devious, You will show Yourself shrewd. 28And You will save the humble; but Your eyes are upon the haughty, to bring them down. 29For You are my lamp, O LORD; and the LORD will brighten my darkness. 30For by You I have run against a troop; by my God have I scaled a wall.

31As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; He is a shield to all those that trust in Him. 32For who is God, except the LORD? And who is the Rock, except our God? 33God is my strength and power; and He makes my way perfect. 34He makes my feet like hinds' feet (the feet of a deer); and sets me upon my high places. 35He trains my hands for battle; so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms. 36You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your gentleness has made me great. 37You have broadened the path under me; so that my feet did not slip.

38I have pursued and destroyed my enemies; and did not turn back until they were destroyed. 39And I have crushed them, so that they could not rise again: yea, they are fallen under my feet. 40For You have armed me with strength for battle; those who rose against me have You subdued before me. 41You have made my enemies retreat before me, that I might destroy those who hate me. 42They looked for help, but found none to save; even unto the LORD, but He did not answer them. 43Then did I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth; I stamped them like the mud of the street.

44You have also rescued me from my accusers, You have preserved me as head of the nations; people I did not know now serve me. 45Foreign nations cringe before me; as soon as they hear, they submit to me. 46They lose heart, and come out of their strongholds trembling.

47The LORD lives! Blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation. 48It is God Who avenges me, and puts people under me, 49And Who sets me free from my enemies. You have also lifted me above those who rose against me; You have rescued me from the violent man. 50Therefore, I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, and I will sing praises to Your name.

51You are the tower of salvation for Your king; and You show mercy to Your anointed, to David, and to his progeny for evermore.”
