1And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2And suddenly a sound, like that of a roaring mighty wind, came from heaven, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared, separated, and settled upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues (languages), as the Holy Spirit enabled and gave them utterance. 5And there were staying at Jerusalem at that time Jews, devout men, from out of every nation under heaven. 6And when they heard what was happening in that place, a large group of these travelers came there, and were confounded, because each traveler heard them speaking in his own native language. 7They were utterly amazed and marveled, saying to each other, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8Then how is it that we each hear them in our own native language! - 9Parthians, Medes, Elamites, residents of Mesopotamia, Judaea, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, parts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome - both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabians, we all hear them declaring in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12Amazed and perplexed, they said to one another, “What can this mean?!” 13Some, however, scoffed, saying, “These men have just had too much wine; that’s all.” 14But then Peter stood up with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed the crowd: “Listen carefully to my words, my fellow Jews of Judaea, and residents of Jerusalem, so you’ll understand what you are witnessing: 15These people are not drunk, as some of you suppose, since it is only the third hour (9 AM). 16But rather, this is what the prophet Joel spoke of (Joel 2:28-31): 17‘In the last days’, says God, ‘I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18And even on My servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit; and they shall prophesy in those days. 19And I will show wonders in heavens above, and signs in the earth below: blood, and fire, and billows of smoke. 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon to blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord comes; 21And everyone who shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved’. 22You people of Israel, hear these words: ‘Jesus of Nazareth, a Man Who God showed His approved of by the miracles, wonders and signs, which God did by Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know’; 23This Man was handed over to you, with the counsel and foreknowledge of God, and you, by wicked hands, have crucified and slain Him. 24But God has raised Him up, freeing Him from the consequences of death, because death could not keep Him in its grip. 25For David said about Him: ‘I foresaw the Lord always before me, for He is on my right hand, that I should not be shaken. 26Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; and also my body shall rest in hope, 27Because You will not leave my soul among the dead, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. 28You have made known to me the ways of life; You shall make me full of joy with Your countenance.’(Psalm 16:8-11 29My fellow Israelites and brothers, let me confidently tell you this about our patriarch, David: that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher (grave) is with us unto this day. 30But he was a prophet, and knew that God had promised with an oath to him that He (God) would place on his (David’s) throne One of his own descendants; 31And he (David), seeing what was to come, spoke of the resurrection of Christ, the Messiah, and that His soul would not left in hades, nor would His flesh experience the corruption of the grave. 32This same Jesus, God has raised up, and we are all witnesses of that. 33Therefore, being exalted to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, Which He has poured out, as you now see and hear. 34For David did not ascend into the heavens; yet he, himself, said, ‘The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit Thou (Christ) on My right hand, 35Until I make Your foes Your footstool.”’ 36Therefore, let all of Israel know assuredly, that God has made that same Jesus, Whom you have crucified, both Lord and Christ, the Messiah.” 37Now when they heard this, their hearts were pierced with remorse, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what should we do?” 38Then Peter told them, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For this promise is to you, and to your children, and for all that are far off, for all that the Lord, our God shall call to Himself.” 40And with many more words he testified and warned, pleading with them, “Save yourselves from this crooked (corrupt) generation.” 41Then those that gladly received his word were baptized; and about three thousand souls were added to the church of believers that same day. 42And they devoted themselves steadfastly to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43And everyone was filled with awe; and many wonders and signs were performed by the apostles. 44And all the believers were together, and had all things in common; 45And they sold property and possessions, so that they could give to anyone that had need. 46And they continued to meet daily in the Temple courts; and broke bread from house to house, eating their food with glad and sincere hearts, 47Praising God, and enjoying favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. Some Scripture verses referenced above: V16 - Joel 2:28-31 - 28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out My Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29And, also, upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out My Spirit. 30And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. 31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. V25-28 -Psalm 16:1-11 - 1Preserve me, O God; for in You do I put my trust. 2O my soul, you have said unto the LORD, You are my LORD; my goodness extends not to You; 3But to the saints who are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight. 4Their sorrows shall be multiplied, who hasten after another god; their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips. 5The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup; You maintain my lot. 6The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. 7I will bless the LORD, Who has given me counsel: my heart {reins} also instructs me in the night seasons. 8I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also shall rest in hope. 10For You wilt not leave my soul in sheol {hell}; neither wilt You suffer Your Holy One to see corruption. 11 You wilt show me the path of life; in Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
