1Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan. And Og, the king of Bashan, came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. 2And the LORD said to me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into your hand; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon. 3So the LORD our God also delivered Og, the king of Bashan, and all his people, into our hands; and we struck him until none was left remaining to him. 4And we took all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them - sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; along with a great many unwalled towns. 6And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon, king of Heshbon, destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. 7But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for ourselves. 8And at that time we took out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites all the land that was on this (east) side of the Jordan, from the river of Arnon to mount Hermon; 9(Which Hermon the Sidonians called Sirion; and the Amorites called it Senir;) 10All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, to Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 11For Og, king of Bashan, was the last of the giants; his bedstead was of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the Ammonites? Nine cubits (12 and a half feet) was its length, and four cubits (6 feet) its width, after the cubit of a man.

12“And this land, which we captured at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half of Mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and the Gadites. 13And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. 14Jair, son of Manasseh, took all the country of Argob to the borders of the Geshurites and Maachathites; and renamed them after his own name, Havvoth-jair, to this day. 15And I gave Gilead to Machir. 16And to the Reubenites and the Gadites I gave land from Gilead to the river Arnon, half the valley, and the border as far as to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites; 17The Arabah also, and Jordan, and its boundary, from Chinnereth to the sea of the plain, the salt sea, under the slopes of Pisgah.

18“And I commanded you at that time, by saying, ‘The LORD your God has given you this land to possess: you shall cross over armed before your fellow Israelites, all that are fit for the war. 19But your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, (for I know that you have much cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you; 20Until the LORD has given rest to your brethren, as well as to you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God has given them beyond the Jordan: and then you shall all return to his possession, which I have given to you.

21“And I told Joshua at that time, ‘Your eyes have seen all that the LORD your God has done to these two kings: so shall the LORD do to all the kingdoms where you pass. 22You shall not fear them: for the LORD your God shall fight for you’.

23“And I besought the LORD at that time, praying, 24‘O LORD God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness, and Your mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do the mighty deeds that You so? 25I pray You, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.’ 26But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD told me, ‘That is enough! Speak no more to Me of this matter. 27Go up to the top of Pisgah, and look westward, northward, southward, and eastward, and see it with your own eyes: but you shall not go over this Jordan. 28Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him: for he shall lead this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.’ 29So we stayed in the valley near Beth-peor.
