1So the king and Haman came to the banquet of Esther, the queen. 2And on that second day at the banquet of wine, the king again asked Esther “What is your petition, Queen Esther? And what is your request? It shall be granted to you and be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.” 3Then Queen Esther replied, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life, and the life of my people, be spared. This is my petition; 4For I and my people have been sold out to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. If we had only been sold for male and female slaves, I would have remained silent, although the enemy could not compensate the king for the damage he would incur.” 5Then King Xerxes asked Esther, the queen, “Who is he, and where is he, who would presume in his heart to do such a thing?” 6Esther replied, “The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman.” Then Haman feared greatly before the king and the queen. 7And the king rose in anger from the banquet of wine, and went into the palace garden (to ponder what he should do). But Haman stayed to plead to Esther, the queen, for his life; for he saw that harm was determined against him by the king. 8Then the king returned from the palace garden to where they had been drinking wine; and Haman had fallen upon the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he also assault the queen with me in the house?” In response to the king's words, they (the servants) covered Haman's face (in preparation for his execution). 9And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains who attended the king, said, “Look, there is a gallows fifty cubits high, standing at Haman’s house, which he had made for Mordecai, who’s good warning had saved the king.” Then the king said, “Hang Haman on it.” 10So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified. Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser. Used by Permission. All rights Reserved. Bible Hub |
