1“And take your brother, Aaron, and his sons - Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar - from among the Israelites, that he may minister unto Me in the priest's office. 2And make sacred garments for your brother, Aaron, for dignity and honor. 3And tell all those that I have filled with the Spirit of wisdom in such matters, that they may make Aaron's garments for his consecration, so that he may minister unto Me in the priest's office. 4And these are the garments which they shall make: a breastplate, an ephod, a robe, an embroidered coat, a miter (turban), and a girdle (sash). They shall make sacred garments worn by Aaron, your brother, and his sons, when they minister unto Me in the priest's office. 5Have them use gold, blue, purple, and scarlet thread, and fine linen.

6Make the ephod of gold, blue, purple, scarlet, and finely woven linen, worked with skillful hands. 7It shall have two shoulder pieces attached at its two edges; so it can be fastened together. 8And the beautifully woven girdle (waistband) of the ephod, which shall be of the same material - gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, and finely woven linen. 9And take two onyx stones, and engrave on them the names of the sons of Israel: 10Six names on one stone, and the other six names on the other stone, in the order of their birth. 11Engrave their names in the two stones, like the engravings of a signet. Then mount them in settings of gold. 12And fasten the two stones upon the shoulder pieces of the ephod: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders as a memorial of the sons of Israel. 13Make gold filigree settings for them, 14And two chains of pure gold, and attach the braided chains to the settings.

15Use great skill in fashioning the breastplate, to be worn when making decisions, like the work of the ephod, itself: of gold, blue, purple, and scarlet, and of finely woven linen. 16It shall be square, a span (9 inches) long and wide, folded double. 17And you shall mount on it settings of precious stones, in four rows of three: in the first row shall be sardius, topaz, and carbuncle. 18And in the second row shall be an emerald, sapphire, and diamond. 19And in the third row, jacinth, agate, and amethyst. 20And in the fourth row, beryl, onyx, and jasper. They shall be mounted in gold filigree settings. 21And the twelve stones shall have the names of the sons of Israel engraved on them like a signet; each with the name of one of the twelve tribes. 22And to attach the breastplate to the ephod, you shall make braided chains of pure gold. 23Make two gold rings, and attach them to the two corners of the breastplate. 24And fasten the two braided chains of gold to those two rings on the corners of the breastplate. 25And fasten the other two ends of the two braided chains to the two settings, attaching them to the shoulder pieces at the front of the ephod. 26And make two more gold rings, and put them on the other two corners of the breastplate near its edge, next to the inside of the ephod. 27And make yet two more gold rings, and put them on the two sides at the bottom of the ephod, toward its front, opposite its other coupling, above the beautifully woven sash of the ephod. 28The rings shall be used to bind the breastplate to the ephod with a lace of blue, above the beautifully woven girdle of the ephod, so that the breastplate is securely attached to the ephod. 29So that whenever Aaron enters the holy place, he shall bear the names of the sons of Israel on the breastplate of judgment (for making decisions) upon his heart, for a memorial before the LORD continually. 30And you shall put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate of judgment; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goes in before the LORD: and Aaron shall always bear upon his heart the means for making judgment (decisions) for the children of Israel before the LORD.

Urim and Thummim (v.30) Urim literally means “lights”; Thummim means “perfections.” Taken together, they are said to mean “revelations and truth.”)

31Make the robe of the ephod entirely of a single piece of blue material. 32And make an opening for the head in the center of the top, with a binding edge of woven work like a collar around the opening, so that it will not tear. 33And attach pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet, with golden bells between them, all around its hem: 34Alterate golden bells and pomegranates - a golden bell and a pomegranate - all around the hem of the robe. 35And Aaron must wear it to minister: and the sound of the bells shall be heard when he goes into the holy place before the LORD, and when he comes out, so that he does not die.

36And make a plate of pure gold, and engrave “HOLINESS TO THE LORD upon it, like the engravings of a signet.” 37And attach it with blue lace to the front of the miter (turban). 38And it shall always be on Aaron's forehead, so that Aaron may bear the guilt of the people when they consecrate sacred offerings, that they may be accepted before the LORD.

39And embroider the tunic (coat) of fine linen, and make the miter of fine linen; and make the sash of the work of an embroiderer.

40And make tunics, sashes, and turbans for Aaron's sons, to give them dignity and honor. 41And after you put them upon your brother, Aaron, and his sons; you shall anoint them, consecrate, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto Me in the priest's office. 42And you shall make linen breeches (undergarments) for them; extending from their waist to the thighs, to cover their nakedness. 43And they shall be worn by Aaron and his sons whenever they enter the tabernacle of meeting, or when they approach the altar to minister in the holy place; so that they do not incur guilt and die. This shall be a statute forever for Aaron and his descendants after him.
