1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, focus your thoughts upon Christ Jesus, Whom we acknowledge as our Apostle and High Priest; 2Who was faithful to God Who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful when he was entrusted with all God’s house (Num.12:7). 3For Jesus was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, just as He Who has built the house has more honor than the house itself. 4For every house is built by someone; but He Who built all things is God. 5And Moses was truly faithful as a servant, in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later. 6But Christ, as the Son, is faithful over God’s entire house, which house we are, if we indeed hold firmly to our confidence and the hope that we trust and rejoice in. 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you will hear His voice, 8Do not harden your hearts, as they did in the provocation, in the day of trial in the wilderness, 9When your fathers tested Me, even after seeing all that I did for forty years. 10That is why I was grieved with that generation, and said, “Their hearts constantly go astray; and they refuse to abide by My ways. 11So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter into My rest’” (Psalm 95:7-11). 12Be careful, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, disbelieving heart, that turns you away from the living God. 13But encourage one another daily, while it is still called “Today”, so that none of you are hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold firmly to our original conviction to the very end, 15As it was said before (v7), “Today if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as in the provocation.” 16For who were they, who heard, and then rebelled? Were they not all those that Moses led out of Egypt? 17But with whom was He grieved for forty years? Was it not with those that had sinned, whose carcasses decayed in the wilderness? 18And to whom did God swear that they should never enter His rest, if not those that disobeyed Him? 19So we see that they were not allowed to enter because of their unbelief.
