1Then the family heads of the Levites came to Eleazar, the priest, to Joshua, and to the heads of the other tribes of Israel, 2And spoke to them at Shiloh in Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with its pasture lands for our cattle.” 3And the Israelites gave of their inheritance to the Levites, as commanded by the LORD, these cities, and their suburbs:

4The first lot came for the families of the Kohathites; and for the progeny of Aaron, the priest, who were of the Levites, thirteen cities out of the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin. 5And the rest of the descendants of Kohath were allotted ten cities out of the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half tribe of Manasseh. 6And the progeny of Gershon were allotted thirteen cities out of the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan. 7The families of Merari were allotted twelve cities out of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

8And the Israelites allotted to the Levites these cities with their pasture lands (suburbs), as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses. 9And they allotted out of the tribes of Judah, and of Simeon, the cities which are listed here by name, 10Which the progeny of Aaron, being of the Kohathites, who were descendants of Levi, had; for theirs was the first lot. 11And they gave them Kiriath-arba, (Arba was the forefather of Anak), the same city is called Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with its pasture lands around it. 12But the fields and villages around the city, they gave to Caleb, son of Jephunneh, for his possession. 13Thus they gave to the progeny of Aaron, the priest, Hebron with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and these cities with their pasture lands: Libnah, 14Jattir, Eshtemoa, 15Holon, Debir, 16Ain, Jutah, and Beth-shemesh; nine cities out of those two tribes. 17And out of the tribe of Benjamin: Gibeon, Geba, 18Anathoth, and Almon; four cities with their pasture lands. 19All the cities of the progeny of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasture lands.

20And the families of the progeny of Kohath, the Levites who remained of the progeny of Kohath, were allotted cities out of the tribe of Ephraim. 21For they gave them Shechem and its pasture lands in Mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Gezer, 22Kibzaim, Beth-horon; four cities, with their pasture lands. 23And out of the tribe of Dan: Eltekeh, Gibbethon, 24Aijalon, Gath-rimmon; four cities, with their pasture lands. 25And out of the half tribe of Manasseh: Ta-anach, and Gath-rimmon; two cities, with their pasture lands. 26All these cities were ten with their pasture lands for the remaining progeny of Kohath.

27And to the descendants of Gershon, of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave: Golan in Bashan with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Be-eshtera with its pasture lands; two cities. 28And out of the tribe of Issachar: Kishon, Daberath, 29Jarmuth, En-gannim; four cities, with their pasture lands. 30And out of the tribe of Asher: Mishal, Abdon, 31Helkath, and Rehob; four cities, with their pasture lands. 32And out of the tribe of Naphtali: Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; Hammoth-dor, and Kartan; three cities, with their pasture lands. 33All the cities of the Gershonites for their families were thirteen cities with their pasture lands (suburbs).

34And to the families of the progeny of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun: Jokneam, Kartah, 35Dimnah, and Nahalal; four cities, with their pasture lands. 36And out of the tribe of Reuben: Bezer, Jahaz, 37Kedemoth, and Mephaath; four cities, with their pasture lands. 38And out of the tribe of Gad: Ramoth in Gilead, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; Mahanaim, 39Heshbon, and Jazer; four cities in all, with their pasture lands. 40So all the cities for the progeny of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities. 41All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the Israelites were forty-eight cities with their pasture lands. 42Each of these cities had their pasture lands (suburbs) around: thus were all these cities.

43And the LORD gave to Israel all the land which He promised to give to their ancestors; and they possessed and lived in the land. 44And the LORD gave them rest all around, according to all that He promised their fathers: and not one man of their enemies withstood them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. 45Not one thing failed which the LORD had promised to the house of Israel; it all came to be.
