Joshua 23

1And a long time after the LORD had given rest to Israel from all their enemies around them, Joshua had grown old. 2And he summoned all Israel, their elders, their heads, their judges, and their officials, and said to them, “I am very old; 3And you have seen all that the LORD your God has done to all these nations on your behalf; for the LORD your God is He Who has fought for you. 4Behold, I have allotted to you the land of the nations that remain, as an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan to the east, to the Mediterranean Sea to the west. 5And the LORD your God, He shall drive them from before you and out of your sight; and you shall possess their land, as the LORD your God has promised to you.

6Be very courageous and diligent to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, so that you so not turn aside from it to the right hand or to the left; 7And that you do not associate with the nations that yet remain; nor even mention the name of their gods, nor swear by nor serve them, nor bow yourselves to them: 8But cling to the LORD your God, as you have done until this day. 9For the LORD has driven out great and strong nations from before you; and no man has been able to stand before you until this day. 10One of you shall chase a thousand; for the LORD your God is He Who fights for you, as He has promised you. 11Take that care you love the LORD your God. 12Or else, if you in any way go back, and ally yourselves to these remaining, and intermarry with them, and associate with them, 13Know for certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive any of these nations out from before you; but they shall be snares and traps to you, whips on your backs, and thorns in your eyes, until you perish off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

14And I am about to go the way of all the earth; and you know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God said concerning you; all have come to pass - not one thing of it has failed. 15But just as all good things that the LORD your God promised have come to you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all disastrous things He has warned you about, until He has wiped you from off this good land which He has given you, 16If you violate the covenant of the LORD your God, which He made with you, and go and serve other gods, and bow yourselves to them, that will cause the anger of the LORD to be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land which He has given to you.”
