1And Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2And there was a man named Zacchaeus, who was the head tax collector, and was rich. 3And he wanted to see who Jesus was; but could not because of the crowd and because he was short in stature. 4And so he ran ahead, and climbed up into a sycamore tree for a vantage point to see Him; as He was to pass that way. 5And when Jesus reached that spot, He looked up, saw him, and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly; for I must stay at your house today.” 6And he came down at once, and gladly welcomed Him. 7And when the people saw it, they began to mutter that He was going to be guest with a man that is a sinner. 8And Zacchaeus stood up, and said to the Lord; “Behold, Lord, half of my wealth I hereby give to the poor; and if I have fraudulently assessed and taxed any man, I restore to him fourfold.” 9And Jesus said to him, “This day salvation has come to this house, because he is also is a son of Abraham. 10For the Son of man has come to seek and to save the lost.”

11And as the crowd listened to this, He went on to tell them a parable, because He was near Jerusalem, and the people thought that the kingdom of God would immediately appear. 12 And so He said, “A certain man of noble birth went to a far country to be crowned king there, and then return. 13And he called his ten servants, and gave them ten pounds, and said to them, ‘Put this money to work until I come back.’ 14But his subjects hated him, and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We do not want this man to be our king’. 15And when he returned, having received the kingdom, he summoned those servants, to whom he had given the money, to find out how much each man had gained by trading. 16The first one came, and said, ‘Lord, your pound has gained ten pounds’. 17And he said to him, ‘Well done, my good servant; because you have been faithful in a little, you will now have authority over ten cities.’ 18And the second came, and said, ‘Lord, your pound has gained five pounds’. 19And he told him likewise, ‘You will also be given authority over five cities.’ 20And the third came, and said, ‘Lord, behold, here is your pound, which I have kept hidden safely away, 21Becaues I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man who takes up what he has not put down, and reaps where he has not sown’. 22And he said to him, ‘By the words out your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping where I did not sow. 23Why, then, did you not invest my money at the bank, that when I returned, I might have collected my money with interest?’ 24And he said to all those that stood by, ‘Take the pound from this servant, and give it to the servant who has ten pounds.’ 25And they said to him, ‘Sir, he already has ten pounds!’ 26And he replied, ‘I tell you, that to those who have, more shall be given; and from those who have nothing, even what little they have shall be taken from him. 27But bring my enemies here, who would not accept me as their king, and execute them in front of me.’”

28And when Jesus had said this, He led the way on the ascent toward Jerusalem. 29And when He approached Bethphage and Bethany, at the hill called the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples, 30Telling them, “Go into the village ahead; and as you enter, you will find a colt tied, which no one has ever sat on. Untie it; and bring it here. 31And if anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’, tell him, ‘Because the Lord has need of him.’” 32And they went, and found it just as He had told them. 33And as they were untying the colt, its owners said, “Why are you untying the colt?” 34And they said, “The Lord has need of him.” 35And they brought the colt to Jesus; and they threw their cloaks on the colt, and they set Jesus on it. 36And as He went along, people spread their clothes on the road. 37And when He came near to where the road descends to the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with loud voices for all the miracles that they had seen, 38Shouting, “Blessed be the King that comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.” 39And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Master, reprimand Your disciples.” 40And He replied, “I tell you that if these should hold their peace, the stones along the road would cry out.”

41And as He approached Jerusalem, and viewed the city, He wept over it, 42And said, “If you had only understood on this day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 43For the days shall come, when your enemies shall build barricades around you, and hem you in on every side, 44And shall tear you down to the ground, and dash your children within you; and they shall not leave within you one stone upon another; because you failed to recognize the time of your visitation from God.”

45And Jesus went into the Temple, and began to drive out those that bought and sold within it, 46Saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house will be the house of prayer.’ But you have made it a den of thieves.” 47And each day He taught in the Temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, were planning ways to destroy Him, 48But they did not find a way, because the crowd was hanging on His every word.
