1And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he turned his face toward the wilderness. 2And Balaam looked out, and saw Israel encamped in their tents arranged by their tribes; and the Spirit of God came upon him. 3And he spoke this parable, “The declaration of Balaam, son of Beor, has said, and the man whose eyes are open has said; 4‘He has said, who heard the words of God, who saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: 5“How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, and your homes, O Israel! 6They are spread out, like the valleys, like gardens by the river bank, like the trees of aloes which the LORD has planted, and like cedar trees beside the waters. 7Water shall pour the out of their buckets, and their offspring shall have abundant waters, and their king shall be higher than Agag, and their kingdom shall be exalted. 8God brought them forth out of Egypt; he has the strength of a wild ox (unicorn); they shall devour their enemy nations, and shall break their bones, and pierce them with their arrows. 9They crouch like a lion, a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.”’”

10Then Balak's anger burned against Balaam, and he struck his hands together: and said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, and, you have altogether blessed them these three times. 11Now leave this place: I thought to promote you to great honor; but the LORD has kept you back from honor.” 12And Balaam replied, “Did I not tell the messengers you sent to me, 13‘If Balak would give me his palace full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the command of the LORD, to do either good or bad on my own; but what the LORD says, that I must speak?’ 14And now, I am returning to my people. Come, and I will warn you what this people shall do to your people in days to come.” 15And he took up his parable, and said, “Balaam, son of Beor, and the man whose eyes are open, has said: 16‘The prophecy of one who hears the words of God, and has knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open: 17“I shall see Him, but not now: I shall behold Him, but not near: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel, and shall strike the corners of Moab, and destroy all the descendants of Sheth. 18And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly. 19Out of Jacob shall He (Christ) come Who shall have dominion, and shall destroy the survivors of the city.”’”

20And when Balaam saw Amalek, he took up his parable, “Amalek was the first among the nations; but his latter end shall be complete destruction.” 21And he looked at the Kenites, and took up his parable, “Strong is your dwelling place, and you build your nest in a rock. 22Nevertheless, the Kenite shall be destroyed, when Asshur takes you captive.” 23And he took up his parable, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?! 24Ships shall come from the shores of Kittim (Cyprus), and shall subdue Asshur, and Eber, and he also shall come to ruin.” 25And Balaam arose, and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
