1Man can make his own plans; but the best answers come from the LORD. 2All our ways seem right in our own eyes; but the LORD weighs our motives. 3Commit whatever you do unto the LORD, and your plans shall prosper. 4The LORD works out everything to its proper end - even the wicked, for the day of their destruction. 5Everyone who is prideful is an abomination to the LORD; be assured, they shall not be unpunished. 6By mercy and truth sin is atoned for; and by honoring and obeying the LORD men avoid evil. 7When a man's ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. 8Better is a little with righteousness than great profits ill-gotten. 9A man may plan his course; but the LORD directs his steps. 10A king should utter just decrees; his mouth should not betray his duty to justice. 11Honest scales and balances are of the LORD; He sets the standards for fairness. 12Wicked behavior is an abomination to kings; for their throne is established by righteousness. 13Kings are pleased with righteous words, and they that speak truthfully. 14The wrath of a king is like a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it. 15When a king smiles, it means life, and his favor refreshes like a spring rain. 16How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is better than silver. 17The path of the upright shuns evil; those who take that path preserve their soul. 18Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19It is better to be of a humble spirit with the poor, than to share wealth with the proud. 20Whoever heeds instruction and handles a matter wisely shall prosper; and those who trust in the LORD shall prosper. 21The wise in heart shall be called prudent, and gracious words promote learning. 22Discretion is a wellspring of life to those who have it; but instruction is wasted on fools. 23The heart of the wise exercises a prudent mouth, and his words are persuasive. 24Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the body. 25There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. 26Hunger drives men to work. 27An ungodly man plots evil, and his mouth is like a burning fire. 28A perverse man stirs up conflict, and a whisperer separates close friends. 29A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him into the way that is not good. 30He winks as he devises perverse things; and smirks as he brings evil to pass. 31Gray hair is a crown of glory, if it is attained by living righteously. 32He who is slow to anger is better than a mighty warrior; and one with self-control is better than one that captures a city. 33We may throw the dice; but the LORD determines how they fall.
