Maschil, for the sons of Korah

1As the deer seeks streams of water, so my soul seeks after You, O God. 2My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when may I come before You, O God? 3My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually ask me, “Where is your God?” 4I pour out my soul as I remember when I, with many others, joyfully went to the house of God, to observe a holy day with our praises. 5Why are you downcast and distressed, O my soul? Trust in God; for I shall yet again praise Him for His presence and help.

6O my God, my soul is discouraged; but will I remember You from the land of Jordan, and the heights of Hermon and mount Mizar. 7The deep echoes the thunderous noise of Your waves and billows as they overwhelm me. 8Yet the LORD will show His loving-kindness by day, and at night His song shall be with me, and my prayer of praise to the God of my life. 9I will say unto God my Rock, “Why have You forgotten me? Why must I be grieved by the oppression of the enemy?10Like a sword in my bones, my enemies taunt me daily, saying, “Where is your God?” 11Why are you depressed, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Trust in God; for I shall yet praise Him, Who is my salvation and God.
