Christ's Example Gradually Imitated
John 13:1-19
Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world to the Father…

The Christian, in his striving after perfection, is like the sculptor Fiamingo with his image, of which the elder D'Israeli tells us. He kept polishing and polishing, till his friend exclaimed impatiently, "What perfection would you have?" "Alas!" was the answer, "the original I am labouring to come up to is in my head, but not yet, in my hand."
