Personal; for though Christ has obeyed the law for us as a covenant of works, yet He has not abrogated it as a rule of life (Romans 7:22; Romans 3:31). 3. Sincere (Psalm 51:6; 1 Timothy 1:5). 4. Affectionate; springing from love, not from terror (1 John 5:19; 1 John 2:5; 2 Corinthians 5:14). 5. Diligent; as St. Paul's at this time. 6. Conspicuous (Philippians 2:15; Matthew 5:16). 7. Universal; not one duty, but all must be performed. 8. Perpetual; at all times, places, occasions. (C. Buck.)
