Looking Back
Luke 9:61-62
And another also said, Lord, I will follow you; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.…

The son of Carey, the Indian missionary, went to Burmah-as a missionary, but there he became an ambassador for the Burmese king. He then lived in great worldly pomp and state, but his father mourned that he had so demeaned himself as to stoop from being God's ambassador to be the ambassador of an Eastern king. All worldly things are only like the shadows of a dream; there is nothing substantial about them. But the honour and blessings which come from God are satisfying and abiding.

(H. R. Burton.).
