Romans 5:7-8
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.…


I. ITS CHARACTER.

1. Real.

2. Violent.

3. Cruel.

4. The same death that was due to us.

II. ITS DESIGN. It was —

1. The punishment of our sin.

2. The price of our redemption.

3. A sacrifice for sin.

III. ITS EFFECTS.

1. Our sins by it are expiated and atoned for.

2. The wrath of God is averted from us.

3. We are freed from all guilt.

IV. APPLICATION. For Christ's great love to us in dying for us, we should love Him —

1. Ardently.

2. Transcendently.

3. Effectually.
