Exodus 18:1-6 When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people… I. THAT THIS FAMILY GATHERING WAS PERMITTED AFTER LONG ABSENCE, AND AFTER THE OCCURRENCE OF GREAT EVENTS. II. THAT THIS FAMILY GATHERING WAS CHARACTERIZED BY COURTESY, BY A RELIGIOUS SPIRIT, AND BY DEVOUT CONVERSATION. III. THAT THIS FAMILY GATHERING DERIVED ITS HIGHEST JOY FROM THE MORAL EXPERIENCES WITH WHICH IT WAS FAVOURED. IV. THAT THIS FAMILY GATHERING WAS MADE THE OCCASION OF A SACRAMENTAL OFFERING TO GOD. Lessons: 1. That God can watch over the interests of a separate family. 2. That God unites families in a providential manner. 3. That united families should rejoice in God. 4.
