1 Corinthians 14:20 Brothers, be not children in understanding: however, in malice be you children, but in understanding be men. I. RELIGION IS NOT MERE SENTIMENT. II. RELIGION DEMANDS THE EXERCISE OF MENTAL POWERS. III. THE MORE DEVELOPED THE MIND BECOMES UNDER GRACIOUS INFLUENCES, THE MORE USEFUL, HAPPY, AND HONOURED WILL THE POSSESSOR BECOME. 1. Better fitted to labour for God's glory. 2. For the advancement of mankind. 3. Will become himself more firmly established in the truth. (1) The grasp of revealed truth will be more tenacious; (2) the conception of the Divine character loftier; (3) the realization of personal duty clearer and stronger. IV. CULTIVATE THE MIND. 1. Store it. 2. Exercise it vigorously. Generally minds are wrecked by too little effort, not by too much. 3. Discipline it carefully. 4. Keep it ever under salutary influences. Lest you become wise in your own conceit. Pride has great facility for entering by the door of knowledge. - H. Parallel Verses KJV: Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.WEB: Brothers, don't be children in thoughts, yet in malice be babies, but in thoughts be mature. |
