Unskilful in the Use of Scripture
Hebrews 5:12-14
For when for the time you ought to be teachers…


I. THE CHARACTER OF THE GOSPEL. "The Word of righteousness."

1. This shows the quality of it.

2. The subject of which it treats.

II. THE FAULT LAMENTED.

1. Some are unskilful in —

(1)  Finding,

(2)  Quoting,

(3)  Defending,

(4)  Applying,

(5)  Perusing the Scriptures.

2. They use Scripture unskilfully, when they do not use it —

(1)  Harmoniously,

(2)  Impartially,

(3)  Practically.Lessons:

1. Be thankful that you have this Word of righteousness.

2. Pity those who are destitute of it. and be concerned to supply them.

Parallel Verses
KJV: For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

WEB: For although by this time you should be teachers, you again need to have someone teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God. You have come to need milk, and not solid food.
