Romans 4:13-15 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law… Law implies a right and a title; faith or grace a gift. If a person has duly purchased an estate, there is no need that he should put out his hands as a suppliant to receive the title deeds. And so if man looks for the heavenly inheritance by law, by compliance with the terms "This do and live," there is no longer any necessity for the kindly offices of faith which says, "Believe and live." If law enters upon the scene, faith's "occupation is gone"; it is emptied, drained of its contents, and rendered useless and worthless. (C. Neil, M. A.)
