Deuteronomy 5:7 You shall have none other gods before me. If we are not to have other gods in His presence, then by every principle of logic we are to have Him. "I am the Lord thy God, and thou shalt have Me." How? As the patriot has his country which is by birth or naturalisation the land he calls his own, wherein are the institutions in which he takes honest pride, and the principles for which he is willing to die; that is his country, so man is to have his God. As the woman has her husband, chosen from out all the sons of men, to whom she surrenders her all, a heart for a heart, a life for a life, a soul for a soul, and in whom she has placed implicit confidence, in the one who led her to the bridal altar and swore to be true to her in good report and evil report, "for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death us do part," to the exclusion of all other men, so is she to have her God, to the exclusion of all other divinities.
