To open our heart to him, by acquainting him with our manner of life. 3. To receive directions concerning repentance from him. 4. To baptize ourselves, as it were, by his advice, in tears and works of mortification.It is an instinct and a duty which is, so to speak, natural, for a man to confess his sins, and to humble himself for them, when once he is touched with a true contrition; but to do this is not at all natural to human pride.
