Isaiah 41:1
Keep silence before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak…


In form the chapter is dramatic. Two great debates are imagined: the first (vers. 1-7) between Jehovah and the nations; the second (vers. 21-29) between Jehovah and the idols, the subject of both being the appearance of Cyrus. In the intervening passage (vers. 8-20) Jehovah encourages His servant Israel in view of this great crisis of history.
