Zechariah 14:7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to the LORD, not day, nor night: but it shall come to pass… While "night," in all languages, is the symbol for gloom and suffering, it is often really cheerful, bright, and impressive. As the natural evening is often luminous, so it shall be light in the evening — 1. Of our Christian sorrows. The night-blooming assurances of Christ's sympathy fill all the atmosphere with heaven. 2. In the time of old age. It is a grand thing to be young. Mid life and old age will be denied to many of us, but youth — we all know what that is. But youth will not always last. Blessed old age, if you let it come naturally, and if it be found in the way of righteousness. 3. In the latter days of the Church. It is early yet in the history of everything good. Civilisation and Christianity are just getting out of the cradle. 4. At the end of the Christian's life. Life is a short winter's day. Baptism and burial are near together.
