Leviticus 1:2 Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, If any man of you bring an offering to the LORD… "If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord." And is there any man of you who will not bring an offering unto the Lord? Have you brought an offering to Him? When? What was it? You don't mean to call that trifle that you dropped into the contribution-box because you must keep up appearances in church, you know; you don't mean to call that your offering unto the Lord! You don't mean to call your amount paid for pew-rent — so that you could have your own independent sittings, and that in the very best place you could get for your money; you don't mean to call that your offering to the Lord! Come, now, what has been your offering unto the Lord — an offering that you could fairly point the Lord to, in comparison with what He has given to you, and could say, "There, Lord, that is my offering to Thee"? "If any man of you bring an offering unto the Lord" — well, what is the offering? Let it be fairly recognised. God wants to know what it is. Can you tell Him? (H. C. Trumbull.)
