Scripture Doctrines Illustrated 1 Corinthians 3:22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; Mr. William Jenkyn, one of the ejected ministers in England, being imprisoned in Newgate, presented a petition to King Charles II. for a release, which was backed by an assurance from his physician that his life was in danger from his close imprisonment; but no other answer could be obtained than this: "Jenkyn shall be a prisoner as long as he lives." A nobleman hearing some time after of his death, said to the king, "May it please your majesty, Jenkyn has got his liberty." Upon which he asked, with eagerness, "Ay! who gave it him?" The nobleman replied, "A greater than your majesty — the King of kings"; with which the king seemed greatly struck, and remained silent. (Scripture Doctrines Illustrated.)
