Am'miel is a biblical figure whose name means "people of God" or "my kinsman is God." He is mentioned in several contexts within the Old Testament, each highlighting different aspects of his life and the roles he played in the history of Israel.

1. Am'miel, the Spy: Am'miel is first introduced in the Book of Numbers as one of the twelve spies sent by Moses to explore the land of Canaan. He represented the tribe of Dan. In Numbers 13:12 , it states, "from the tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemalli." The mission of the spies was to assess the land and its inhabitants, but upon their return, ten of the spies, including Am'miel, gave a discouraging report, leading to the Israelites' fear and rebellion against entering the Promised Land. This act of disbelief resulted in the Israelites wandering in the wilderness for forty years.

2. Am'miel, Father of Machir: Another Am'miel is mentioned in 2 Samuel 9:4 as the father of Machir, who resided in Lo-debar. "The king asked, 'Where is he?' And Ziba answered, 'Indeed, he is in Lo-debar at the house of Machir son of Ammiel.'" Machir is noted for his kindness to Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul. After the death of Saul and Jonathan, Machir provided refuge for Mephibosheth, demonstrating loyalty and compassion during a time of political upheaval.

3. Am'miel, Father of Bathsheba: In 1 Chronicles 3:5 , Am'miel is identified as the father of Bathsheba, the wife of King David and mother of Solomon. "These were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon. These four were born to David by Bathshua daughter of Ammiel." Bathsheba's relationship with David is a pivotal narrative in the history of Israel, leading to significant events in David's reign and the eventual succession of Solomon to the throne.

Am'miel's appearances in the biblical narrative, though brief, connect him to significant events and figures in Israel's history. His name, meaning "people of God," reflects the broader theme of God's relationship with His chosen people, Israel, and the unfolding of His divine plan through various individuals and their actions.
