Divine Rest refers to the state of rest that God exemplified and instituted, as well as the spiritual rest offered to believers. It is a multifaceted concept encompassing God's rest after creation, the Sabbath rest commanded in the Mosaic Law, and the spiritual rest found in Christ.

Creation and God's Rest: The concept of Divine Rest is first introduced in Genesis 2:2-3, where it is recorded, "By the seventh day God had finished the work He had been doing; so on that day He rested from all His work. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on that day He rested from all the work of creation that He had accomplished." This rest is not due to fatigue but signifies the completion and satisfaction in His perfect creation.

2. Sabbath Rest: The Sabbath rest is a direct commandment given to the Israelites, rooted in the creation narrative. Exodus 20:8-11 states, "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work... For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy." 4. Spiritual Rest in Christ: In the New Testament, Jesus Christ offers a deeper, spiritual rest. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus invites, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." This rest is not merely physical but encompasses peace and reconciliation with God through faith in Christ.

5. Eternal Rest: The Book of Hebrews expands on the theme of rest, urging believers to enter God's rest through faith and obedience. Hebrews 4:9-11 states, "There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For whoever enters God's rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following the same pattern of disobedience." This rest is both a present spiritual reality and a future hope of eternal rest with God.
