Ahaziah Reigns in Judah
(2 Kings 8:25–29)

1And those dwelling in Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for all the older sons had been killed by the raiders who came in with the Arabs to the camp. And Ahaziah son of Joram king of Judah reigned. 2Ahaziah was a son of twenty and two years in his reigning, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And the name of His mother was Athaliah daughter of Omri.

3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in acting wickedly. 4And he did evil in the eyes of YHWH, like the house of Ahab, for they were his counselors after the death of his father, for destruction to him.

5Also in their counsel he walked, and he went with Jehoram son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead. And the Aramaeans wounded Jehoram. 6And he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds that he had received at Ramah when he fought against Hazael king of Aram. And Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

7And from God was the downfall of Ahaziah for his coming to Joram. And when he came, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu son of Nimshi, whom YHWH had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

Jehu Kills the Princes of Judah
(2 Kings 9:14–29)

8And it came to pass, in Jehu executing judgment on the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah who served Ahaziah, and he killed them.

9And he searched for Ahaziah, and they caught him, and he was hiding in Samaria. And they brought him to Jehu, and they killed him and buried him, for they said, “He is son of Jehoshaphat, who sought YHWH with all his heart.”

And there was no one from the house of Ahaziah to retain power over the kingdom.

Athaliah and Joash
(2 Kings 11:1–3)

10And Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, and she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom of the house of Judah. 11And Jehoshabeath the daughter of the king took Joash son of Ahaziah, and she stole him away from among the sons of the king who were being killed, and she put him and his nurse in a bedroom. And Jehoshabeath the daughter of King Joram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest—for she was the sister of Ahaziah—hid him from the face of Athaliah, so that she did not kill him.

12And he was with them in the house of God hiding six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.
