Isaiah 62

Zion’s Salvation and New Name

1For the sake of Zion I will not be silent,

and for the sake of Jerusalem I will not be quiet,

until her righteousness goes forth like the brightness,

and her salvation burns bright like a torch.

2And the nations will see your righteousness,

and all the kings your glory;

and you will be called a new name,

which the mouth of YHWH will designate.

3And you will be a crown of glory in the hand of YHWH,

and a turban of kingship in the hand of your God.

4It is not said of you any longer “Azubah”,

and of your land it will not be said anymore “Shemamah”;

but you will be called “Hephzibah”,

and your land “Beulah.”

For YHWH delights in you,

and your land will be married.

5For as a young man marries a virgin,

your sons will marry you;

and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,

your God will rejoice over you.

6Upon your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen;

all the day and all the night, continually, they will not be silent.

You who remember YHWH,

no rest is unto you⁺;

7and you⁺ will not give rest to Him,

until He establishes and until He makes Jerusalem

the praise of the earth.

8YHWH has sworn by His right hand,

and by the arm of His strength:

“Your grain I will give no more

as food for your enemies,

and the sons of the foreigner will not drink your new wine,

which you have toiled over it!

9For those who have gathered it will eat it

and praise YHWH,

and those harvesting will drink

in My holy courts!”

10Pass through, Pass through the gates!

Turn out the way for the people;

build up, build up the highway;

clear out the rocks of stone;

raise a banner for the nations!

11Behold, YHWH has made it heard

to the end of the earth:

“Say to the daughter of Zion:

Behold, your salvation is coming;

behold, His reward is with Him

and His recompense before His face!”

12And they will call them “The Holy People”,

“The Redeemed of YHWH”;

and you will be called, “Sought Out,

a City not Forsaken”.

Footnotes:

4 Azubah means means Forsaken
4 Shemamah means Desolate
4 Hephzibah means My delight is in her.
4 Beulah means Married.
