Good News Translation
When the time came for Mattathias to die, he said to his sons, "These are times of violence and distress. Arrogant people are in control and have made us an object of ridicule.

Now the days drew near for Mattathias to die, and he said to his sons: “Arrogance and scorn have now become strong; it is a time of ruin and furious anger.

Right before Mattathias died, he said to his sons: The Gentiles are proud and violent, and we're going to have a horrible time.
