Isaiah 34

1Come near, you nations; and listen, you people: let the earth, and all that are in it - the entire world, hear My words. 2For the LORD is angry with all nations, and His fury is upon all their armies; He will utterly destroy them; He has delivered them to the slaughter. 3Their slain shall also be thrown out, and their bodies shall stink, and the mountains shall be soaked with their blood. 4And all the stars in the sky shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled back like a scroll; and all their starry host shall fall, like leaves from a tree, and like shriveled figs from the fig tree. 5For My sword has finished its work in heaven; behold, it shall now descend upon the people of Edom that are under My judgment. 6The sword of the LORD is drenched with blood, and covered with fat - the blood of lambs and goats, the fat of the kidneys of rams; for the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. 7And the wild oxen shall fall with them, and the bull calves with the bulls; their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust gorged with fat. 8For it is the day of the LORD's vengeance, and the year when Edom shall be repaid for all that it did to Israel. 9And Edom’s streams shall be turned into pitch, and its dust into brimstone (blazing sulfur), and its land shall become blazing pitch. 10It shall not be quenched night or day; its smoke shall rise forever; from generation to generation, it shall lie waste; none shall ever pass through it again. 11But the cormorant (sea bird) and the desert and screech owl shall occupy it; they and the raven shall dwell in it; and the LORD shall stretch out over Edom the measuring line of chaos and confusion, and the plumb line of desolation. 12Her nobles shall have nothing there to be called a kingdom; all her princes shall vanish. 13And thorns shall overgrow its palaces, nettles, and brambles in its fortresses; and it shall be haunted by jackals, and a home for owls. 14The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with hyenas, and wild goats shall bleat to each other; the screech owl also shall find rest for herself there. 15There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her wings: there shall the vultures also be gathered, each with its mate. 16Look in the scroll (book) of the LORD, and read: none of these shall be missing, none shall lack a mate; for it is His mouth that has ordered it, and His Spirit shall gather them together. 17He has allotted their portions; and His hand has distributed it to them by measure; they shall possess it forever. They will dwell there from generation to generation.
