1Then came David [beloved] to Nov [high place] to Achi-Melekh [my brother is king] the priest: and Achi-Melekh [my brother is king] was afraid at the meeting of David [beloved], and said unto him, Why [are] youⁱ alone, and no man with youⁱ? 2And David [beloved] said unto Achi-Melekh [my brother is king] the priest, The king has commanded me a business, and has said unto me, Let no man know anything of the business about which I send youⁱ, and what I have commanded youⁱ: and I have appointed [my] servants to such and such a place. 3Now therefore what is under youⁱ hand? give [me] five [loaves of] bread in my hand, or what there is present. 4And the priest answered David [beloved], and said, [There is] no common bread under my hand, but there is consecrated bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. 5And David [beloved] answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women [have been] kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and [the bread is] in a manner common, yes, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. 6So the priest gave him consecrated [bread]: for there was no bread there but the showbread, that was taken from before the LORD-Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

7Now a certain man of the servants of Sha’ul [desired] [was] there that day, detained before the LORD-Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate); and his name [was] Do’eg [fearing], an Edomi [red], the most important of the herdsmen that [belonged] to Sha’ul [desired].

8And David [beloved] said unto Achi-Melekh [my brother is king], And is there not here under youⁱ hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste. 9And the priest said, The sword of Golyat [splendor] the P’lishtim [immigrants], whom youⁱ killed in the valley of Elah [an oak], behold, it [is here] wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod (vest): if youⁱ will take that, take [it]: for [there is] no other save that here. And David [beloved] said, [There is] none like that; give it me.

10And David [beloved] arose, and fled that day for fear of Sha’ul [desired], and went to Akhish [meaning disputed; I will blacken (or terrify) or only a man] the king of Gat [Winepress].

11And the servants of Akhish [meaning disputed; I will blacken (or terrify) or only a man] said unto him, [Is] not this David [beloved] the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Sha’ul [desired] has slain his thousands, and David [beloved] his ten thousands?

12And David [beloved] laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Akhish [meaning disputed; I will blacken (or terrify) or only a man] the king of Gat [Winepress]. 13And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. 14Then said Akhish [meaning disputed; I will blacken (or terrify) or only a man] unto his servants, Lo, you^2f see the man is mad: wherefore [then] have you^2f brought him to me? 15Have I need of mad men, that you^2f have brought this [fellow] to play the mad man in my presence? shall this [fellow] come into my house?
