Dishonest scales are detestable to the LORD, but an accurate weight is his delight. | 1The LORD hates false scales, but he delights in accurate weights. |
When arrogance comes, disgrace follows, but with humility comes wisdom. | 2When pride appears, disgrace accompanies it, but humility is present with wisdom. |
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them. | 3The integrity of the righteous guides them, but the hypocrisy of the treacherous destroys them. |
Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death. | 4Wealth won't help in the time of judgment, but righteousness will deliver from death. |
The righteousness of the blameless clears his path, but the wicked person will fall because of his wickedness. | 5The righteousness of the innocent creates a level path, but the wicked fall by their wickedness. |
The righteousness of the upright rescues them, but the treacherous are trapped by their own desires. | 6The righteousness of the upright delivers them, but the treacherous are trapped by their evil desires. |
When the wicked person dies, his expectation comes to nothing, and hope placed in wealth vanishes. | 7When a wicked person dies, his hope vanishes; and what he expected from his scheming comes to nothing. |
The righteous one is rescued from trouble; in his place, the wicked one goes in. | 8The righteous person is delivered from trouble; it comes upon the wicked instead. |
With his mouth the ungodly destroys his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous are rescued. | 9By what he says, the godless person can destroy his neighbor, but through knowledge the righteous escape. |
When the righteous thrive, a city rejoices; when the wicked die, there is joyful shouting. | 10The city rejoices when the righteous prosper, and when the wicked perish there is jubilation. |
A city is built up by the blessing of the upright, but it is torn down by the mouth of the wicked. | 11Through the blessing of the righteous a city is built up, but what the wicked say tears it down. |
Whoever shows contempt for his neighbor lacks sense, but a person with understanding keeps silent. | 12Whoever belittles his neighbor lacks sense, but the discerning man controls his comments. |
A gossip goes around revealing a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence. | 13Whoever spreads gossip betrays secrets, but the trustworthy person keeps a confidence. |
Without guidance, a people will fall, but with many counselors there is deliverance. | 14A nation falls through a lack of guidance, but victory comes through the counsel of many. |
If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected. | 15Securing a loan for a stranger will bring suffering, but by refusing to do so, one remains safe. |
A gracious woman gains honor, but violent people gain only riches. | 16A gracious woman attains honor, but ruthless men attain wealth. |
A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel person brings ruin on himself. | 17A gracious man benefits himself, but the cruel person damages himself. |
The wicked person earns an empty wage, but the one who sows righteousness, a true reward. | 18Evil people earn deceptive wages, but those who plant righteousness are truly rewarded. |
Genuine righteousness leads to life, but pursuing evil leads to death. | 19Genuine righteousness leads to life, but whoever pursues evil will die. |
Those with twisted minds are detestable to the LORD, but those with blameless conduct are his delight. | 20Devious minds are abhorrent to the LORD, but those whose ways are innocent are his delight. |
Be assured that a wicked person will not go unpunished, but the offspring of the righteous will escape. | 21Be sure of this: the wicked will not go unpunished, but the descendants of the righteous will go free. |
A beautiful woman who rejects good sense is like a gold ring in a pig's snout. | 22Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without discretion. |
The desire of the righteous turns out well, but the hope of the wicked leads to wrath. | 23The desire of the righteous is to seek good, but the hope of the wicked results in wrath. |
One person gives freely, yet gains more; another withholds what is right, only to become poor. | 24Those who give freely gain even more; others hold back what they owe, becoming even poorer. |

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and a wise person captivates people. | 30The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who wins people is wise. |
If the righteous will be repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and sinful. | 31If the righteous receive what they are due here on earth, how much more will the wicked and the sinner. |
