Hosea 8
ESV Parallel BSB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
English Standard VersionBerean Study Bible
Set the trumpet to your lips! One like a vulture is over the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant and rebelled against my law.1Put the ram’s horn to your lips! An eagle looms over the house of the LORD, because the people have transgressed My covenant and rebelled against My law.
To me they cry, “My God, we—Israel—know you.”2Israel cries out to Me, “O our God, we know You!”
Israel has spurned the good; the enemy shall pursue him.3But Israel has rejected good; an enemy will pursue him.
They made kings, but not through me. They set up princes, but I knew it not. With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction.4They set up kings, but not by Me. They make princes, but without My approval. With their silver and gold they make themselves idols, to their own destruction.
I have spurned your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?5He has rejected your calf, O Samaria. My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of innocence?
For it is from Israel; a craftsman made it; it is not God. The calf of Samaria shall be broken to pieces.6For this thing is from Israel—a craftsman made it, and it is not God. It will be broken to pieces, that calf of Samaria.
For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads; it shall yield no flour; if it were to yield, strangers would devour it.7For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. There is no standing grain; what sprouts fails to yield flour. Even if it should produce, the foreigners would swallow it up.
Israel is swallowed up; already they are among the nations as a useless vessel.8Israel is swallowed up! Now they are among the nations like a worthless vessel.
For they have gone up to Assyria, a wild donkey wandering alone; Ephraim has hired lovers.9For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey on its own. Ephraim has hired lovers.
Though they hire allies among the nations, I will soon gather them up. And the king and princes shall soon writhe because of the tribute.10Though they hire allies among the nations, I will now round them up, and they will begin to diminish under the oppression of the king of princes.
Because Ephraim has multiplied altars for sinning, they have become to him altars for sinning.11Though Ephraim multiplied the altars for sin, they became his altars for sinning.
Were I to write for him my laws by the ten thousands, they would be regarded as a strange thing.12Though I wrote for them the great things of My law, they regarded them as something strange.
As for my sacrificial offerings, they sacrifice meat and eat it, but the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins; they shall return to Egypt.13Though they offer sacrifices as gifts to Me, and though they eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
For Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces, and Judah has multiplied fortified cities; so I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour her strongholds.14Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has multiplied its fortified cities. But I will send fire upon their cities, and it will consume their citadels.
