English Standard Version | New Living Translation |
God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: | 1God presides over heaven’s court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings: |
“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah | 2“How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked? Interlude |
Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. | 3“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. |
Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” | 4Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people. |
They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. | 5But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! They wander about in darkness, while the whole world is shaken to the core. |
I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; | 6I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. |
nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” | 7But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’” |
Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations! | 8Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you. |
