For the choir director: "Do Not Destroy." A psalm of Asaph. A song. We give thanks to You, God; we give thanks to You, for Your name is near. People tell about Your wonderful works." | 1To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph. Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. |
When I choose a time, I will judge fairly. | 2When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. |
When the earth and all its inhabitants shake, I am the One who steadies its pillars. Selah | 3The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. |
I say to the boastful, 'Do not boast,' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up your horn. | 4I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: |
Do not lift up your horn against heaven or speak arrogantly.'" | 5Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. |
Exaltation does not come from the east, the west, or the desert, | 6For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. |
for God is the Judge: He brings down one and exalts another. | 7But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. |
For there is a cup in the LORD's hand, full of wine blended with spices, and He pours from it. All the wicked of the earth will drink, draining it to the dregs. | 8For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. |
As for me, I will tell about Him forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob." | 9But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. |
I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up." | 10All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. |
