Then I looked up again and saw four chariots coming from between two mountains. And the mountains were made of bronze. | 1Once more I looked, and this time I saw four chariots emerging from between two mountains of bronze. |
The first chariot had red horses, the second chariot black horses, | 2Harnessed to the first chariot were red horses, to the second black horses, |
the third chariot white horses, and the fourth chariot dappled horses--all strong horses. | 3to the third white horses, and to the fourth spotted horses, all of them strong. |
So I inquired of the angel who was speaking with me, "What are these, my lord?" | 4Then I asked the angelic messenger who was speaking with me, "What are these, sir?" |
The angel told me, "These are the four spirits of heaven going out after presenting themselves to the Lord of the whole earth. | 5The messenger replied, "These are the four spirits of heaven that have been presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth. |
The one with the black horses is going to the land of the north, the white horses are going after them, but the dappled horses are going to the land of the south." | 6The chariot with the black horses is going to the north country and the white ones are going after them, but the spotted ones are going to the south country. |
As the strong horses went out, they wanted to go patrol the earth, and the LORD said, "Go, patrol the earth." So they patrolled the earth. | 7All these strong ones are scattering; they have sought permission to go and walk about over the earth." The Lord had said, "Go! Walk about over the earth!" So they are doing so. |
Then He summoned me saying, "See, those going to the land of the north have pacified My Spirit in the northern land." | 8Then he cried out to me, "Look! The ones going to the northland have brought me peace about the northland." |
The word of the LORD came to me:" | 9The word of the LORD came to me as follows: |
Take an offering from the exiles, from Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon, and go that same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. | 10"Choose some people from among the exiles, namely, Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, all of whom have come from Babylon, and when you have done so go to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. |
Take silver and gold, make crowns and place them on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. | 11Then take some silver and gold to make a crown and set it on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. |
You are to tell him: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: Here is a man whose name is Branch; He will branch out from His place and build the LORD's temple. | 12Then say to him, 'The LORD who rules over all says, "Look--here is the man whose name is Branch, who will sprout up from his place and build the temple of the LORD. |
Yes, He will build the LORD's temple; He will be clothed in splendor and will sit on His throne and rule. There will also be a priest on His throne, and there will be peaceful counsel between the two of them. | 13Indeed, he will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed in splendor, sitting as king on his throne. Moreover, there will be a priest with him on his throne and they will see eye to eye on everything. |
The crown will reside in the LORD's temple as a memorial to Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah. | 14The crown will then be turned over to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah as a memorial in the temple of the LORD. |
People who are far off will come and build the LORD's temple, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. This will happen when you fully obey the LORD your God." | 15Then those who are far away will come and build the temple of the LORD so that you may know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you. This will all come to pass if you completely obey the voice of the LORD your God."'" |
