| 1To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. | 1For the music director; by the Korahites; according to the alamoth style; a song. God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble. |
| 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; | 2For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, |
| 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. | 3when its waves crash and foam, and the mountains shake before the surging sea. (Selah) |
| 4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. | 4The river's channels bring joy to the city of God, the special, holy dwelling place of the sovereign One. |
| 5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. | 5God lives within it, it cannot be moved. God rescues it at the break of dawn. |
| 6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. | 6Nations are in uproar, kingdoms are overthrown. God gives a shout, the earth dissolves. |
| 7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. | 7The LORD who commands armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our protector! (Selah) |
| 8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. | 8Come! Witness the exploits of the LORD, who brings devastation to the earth! |
| 9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. | 9He brings an end to wars throughout the earth; he shatters the bow and breaks the spear; he burns the shields with fire. |
| 10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. | 10He says, "Stop your striving and recognize that I am God! I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!" |
