| 1A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; | 1Then I witnessed in heaven an event of great significance. I saw a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon beneath her feet, and a crown of twelve stars on her head. |
| 2and she was with child; and she cried out, being in labor and in pain to give birth. | 2She was pregnant, and she cried out because of her labor pains and the agony of giving birth. |
| 3Then another sign appeared in heaven: and behold, a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. | 3Then I witnessed in heaven another significant event. I saw a large red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, with seven crowns on his heads. |
| 4And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she gave birth he might devour her child. | 4His tail swept away one-third of the stars in the sky, and he threw them to the earth. He stood in front of the woman as she was about to give birth, ready to devour her baby as soon as it was born. |

| 11"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. | 11And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die. |
| 12"For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time." | 12Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.” |
| 13And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child. | 13When the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. |
| 14But the two wings of the great eagle were given to the woman, so that she could fly into the wilderness to her place, where she was nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. | 14But she was given two wings like those of a great eagle so she could fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness. There she would be cared for and protected from the dragon for a time, times, and half a time. |
| 15And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. | 15Then the dragon tried to drown the woman with a flood of water that flowed from his mouth. |
| 16But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth. | 16But the earth helped her by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon. |
| 17So the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. | 17And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus. [18] Then the dragon took his stand on the shore beside the sea. |
