The angelic messenger who had been speaking with me then returned and woke me, as a person is wakened from sleep.1The angel who was speaking with me then returned and roused me as one awakened out of sleep.
He asked me, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a menorah of pure gold with a receptacle at the top and seven lamps, with fourteen pipes going to the lamps.2He asked me, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a solid gold lampstand there with a bowl on its top. It has seven lamps on it and seven channels for each of the lamps on its top.
There are also two olive trees beside it, one on the right of the receptacle and the other on the left."3There are also two olive trees beside it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left."
Then I asked the messenger who spoke with me, "What are these, sir?"4Then I asked the angel who was speaking with me, "What are these, my lord?""
He replied, "Don't you know what these are?" So I responded, "No, sir."5Don't you know what they are?" replied the angel who was speaking with me. I said, "No, my lord."
Therefore he told me, "These signify the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by strength and not by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD who rules over all." 6So he answered me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by strength or by might, but by My Spirit,' says the LORD of Hosts.
"What are you, you great mountain? Because of Zerubbabel you will become a level plain! And he will bring forth the temple capstone with shoutings of 'Grace! Grace!' because of this."7What are you, great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain. And he will bring out the capstone accompanied by shouts of: Grace, grace to it!'"
Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me as follows:8Then the word of the LORD came to me:"
"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this temple, and his hands will complete it." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you.9Zerubbabel's hands have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you.
For who dares make light of small beginnings? These seven eyes will joyfully look on the tin tablet in Zerubbabel's hand. (These are the eyes of the LORD, which constantly range across the whole earth.) 10For who scorns the day of small things? These seven eyes of the LORD, which scan throughout the whole earth, will rejoice when they see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand."
Next I asked the messenger, "What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the menorah?"11I asked him, "What are the two olive trees on the right and left of the lampstand?"
Before he could reply I asked again, "What are these two extensions of the olive trees, which are emptying out the golden oil through the two golden pipes?"12And I questioned him further, "What are the two olive branches beside the two gold conduits, from which golden oil pours out?"
He replied, "Don't you know what these are?" And I said, "No, sir."13Then he inquired of me, "Don't you know what these are?"" No, my lord," I replied."
So he said, "These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth." 14These are the two anointed ones," he said, "who stand by the Lord of the whole earth."
