NET Bible | New International Version |
Once more I looked, and this time I saw four chariots emerging from between two mountains of bronze. | 1I looked up again, and there before me were four chariots coming out from between two mountains--mountains of bronze. |
Harnessed to the first chariot were red horses, to the second black horses, | 2The first chariot had red horses, the second black, |
to the third white horses, and to the fourth spotted horses, all of them strong. | 3the third white, and the fourth dappled--all of them powerful. |
Then I asked the angelic messenger who was speaking with me, "What are these, sir?" | 4I asked the angel who was speaking to me, "What are these, my lord?" |
The messenger replied, "These are the four spirits of heaven that have been presenting themselves before the Lord of all the earth. | 5The angel answered me, "These are the four spirits of heaven, going out from standing in the presence of the Lord of the whole world. |
The chariot with the black horses is going to the north country and the white ones are going after them, but the spotted ones are going to the south country. | 6The one with the black horses is going toward the north country, the one with the white horses toward the west, and the one with the dappled horses toward the south." |
All these strong ones are scattering; they have sought permission to go and walk about over the earth." The Lord had said, "Go! Walk about over the earth!" So they are doing so. | 7When the powerful horses went out, they were straining to go throughout the earth. And he said, "Go throughout the earth!" So they went throughout the earth. |
Then he cried out to me, "Look! The ones going to the northland have brought me peace about the northland." | 8Then he called to me, "Look, those going toward the north country have given my Spirit rest in the land of the north." |
The word of the LORD came to me as follows: | 9The word of the LORD came to me: |
"Choose some people from among the exiles, namely, Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah, all of whom have come from Babylon, and when you have done so go to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. | 10"Take silver and gold from the exiles Heldai, Tobijah and Jedaiah, who have arrived from Babylon. Go the same day to the house of Josiah son of Zephaniah. |
Then take some silver and gold to make a crown and set it on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. | 11Take the silver and gold and make a crown, and set it on the head of the high priest, Joshua son of Jozadak. |
Then say to him, 'The LORD who rules over all says, "Look--here is the man whose name is Branch, who will sprout up from his place and build the temple of the LORD. | 12Tell him this is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Here is the man whose name is the Branch, and he will branch out from his place and build the temple of the LORD. |
Indeed, he will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed in splendor, sitting as king on his throne. Moreover, there will be a priest with him on his throne and they will see eye to eye on everything. | 13It is he who will build the temple of the LORD, and he will be clothed with majesty and will sit and rule on his throne. And he will be a priest on his throne. And there will be harmony between the two.' |
The crown will then be turned over to Helem, Tobijah, Jedaiah, and Hen son of Zephaniah as a memorial in the temple of the LORD. | 14The crown will be given to Heldai, Tobijah, Jedaiah and Hen son of Zephaniah as a memorial in the temple of the LORD. |
Then those who are far away will come and build the temple of the LORD so that you may know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you. This will all come to pass if you completely obey the voice of the LORD your God."'" | 15Those who are far away will come and help to build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you. This will happen if you diligently obey the LORD your God." |
