NET Bible | New Living Translation |
A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the assembly of El; in the midst of the gods he renders judgment. | 1God presides over heaven’s court; he pronounces judgment on the heavenly beings: |
He says, "How long will you make unjust legal decisions and show favoritism to the wicked? (Selah) | 2“How long will you hand down unjust decisions by favoring the wicked? Interlude |
Defend the cause of the poor and the fatherless! Vindicate the oppressed and suffering! | 3“Give justice to the poor and the orphan; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute. |
Rescue the poor and needy! Deliver them from the power of the wicked! | 4Rescue the poor and helpless; deliver them from the grasp of evil people. |
They neither know nor understand. They stumble around in the dark, while all the foundations of the earth crumble. | 5But these oppressors know nothing; they are so ignorant! They wander about in darkness, while the whole world is shaken to the core. |
I thought, 'You are gods; all of you are sons of the Most High.' | 6I say, ‘You are gods; you are all children of the Most High. |
Yet you will die like mortals; you will fall like all the other rulers." | 7But you will die like mere mortals and fall like every other ruler.’” |
Rise up, O God, and execute judgment on the earth! For you own all the nations. | 8Rise up, O God, and judge the earth, for all the nations belong to you. |
