Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To God's holy people in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus:1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will: To the faithful saints in Christ Jesus at Ephesus.
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.3Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love4For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him.
he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--5He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.6to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace7In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,8that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding.
he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,9He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ
to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment--to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.10as a plan for the right time--to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him.
In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will,11In him we have also received an inheritance, because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will,
in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.12so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to his glory.
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,13In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spiritwhen you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed.
who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory.14The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people,15This is why, since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints,
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.16I never stop giving thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers.
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.17I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, would give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people,18I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints,
and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the mighty working of his strength.
he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,20He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens--
far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.21far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title given, not only in this age but also in the one to come.
And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church,22And he subjected everything under his feet and appointed him as head over everything for the church,
which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.23which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
